The Tempe Sports Complex offers sixteen dedicated pickleball courts with LED lighting, per the City of Tempe’s pickleball page, following a 2025 expansion that doubled the complex from its original eight courts, making it the largest public pickleball complex in Tempe’s park system. The city-run facility on South Hardy Drive sits within a larger sports park of fields and courts, with play open to the public and city recreation programming running alongside; confirm current reservation options and any programmed blocks with the city before visiting, as scheduling practices have evolved with the expansion. LED lighting extends play into evening hours through the hot months, when early morning and night sessions are most common on Arizona courts.
These courts are truly impressive, boasting a total of 16. Very crowded at night. However, please refrain from visiting during weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm in the summer for open play, as the courts will be empty.
Went there for the first time yesterday at around 3 pm. I played four games with a great group of people without waiting. The courts really started to fill up at around 4 pm. A few days later, on 1/17/25, I took these photos. It was 6:30 pm, and the courts were full, but the paddle rotation was respected, and I got to play four games before I had to leave.Update 2/6/2026 8 new courts are under construction right now!
Great place to play pickleball. Lots of players with varying skill levels
Eight dedicated pickleball courts with fairly easy group to mix with. Prime time is early morning after 6:30 am until 9 am and evening after sundown. Could use more courts.
Pickleball courts are brand new and the pickleball culture is awesome here too. You can start as early as 6 am and play as late as 10 pm and even 11 pm during the summer months.
