Florida Sports Injury and Orthopedic Institute publishes pickleball injury content, including an original article on pickleball wrist fractures updated in December 2025 that cites a 200 percent increase in such fractures. Amit Varma, MD, a double board-certified orthopedic surgeon, leads the orthopedic surgery and sports medicine practice in Clermont, Florida, serving Clermont, Winter Garden, Windermere, and Lake County. The office is on Don Wickham Drive in Clermont.
We were recommended to Dr Welsh and we lived an hour away! From the first appointment to surgery tendon release he explained everything! Very knowledgeable about the issue and how to resolve it. The surgery was a breeze and the staff are all professional and thorough!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! You will not be disappointed!
Everything was absolutely PERFECT. Couldn’t be happier with how everything went. First class operation and Dr Varma was amazing. Everything he explained to me was very accurate. I’m from up in Maine and I know for a fact that when I went in for my first visit they would of scheduled surgery right away, down here he gave me options and told me he would of rather not done surgery to see how it would go for a few months . Was losing sleep and too much pain so I scheduled surgery. And winter garden surgery center is the best. Very nice nurses and top notch, still waiting for my breakfast brunch, just kidding, surgery center knows about the breakfast. Keep up the great work
I had a very disappointing experience with this office. The staff provided inconsistent and often incorrect information, making the entire process confusing and frustrating. It felt like the focus was more on generating revenue than on helping patients.I was required to attend multiple appointments that seemed completely unnecessary before receiving the care or information I actually needed. Each visit resulted in additional charges without any clear benefit or progress.Good healthcare should be based on honesty, transparency, and patient care. Unfortunately, this office fell far short of those expectations. I would not recommend this practice to anyone looking for trustworthy and patient-focused service.
I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Patterson for 4/30/26 and completed all required new patient paperwork in advance. The office makes it very clear—both in the paperwork and on signage—that patients may be charged for missed appointments and that arriving 15 minutes late can result in cancellation.I arrived 12 minutes early, checked in via the digital kiosk, and was promptly greeted by the receptionist, who was polite and professional. My appointment was at 9:30 a.m. By 9:48 a.m., I had still not been called back. I approached the front desk and pointed out that the office has a clearly enforced policy around patient timeliness—yet the doctor was now over 15 minutes late.By 10:02 a.m., after waiting more than 30 minutes past my scheduled time, I had to reschedule due to client commitments. My time is not flexible during the workday, and I had already structured my schedule to accommodate this visit.I fully understand that in healthcare, delays happen. Patients require more time, and schedules can shift. That’s reasonable. What’s not reasonable is enforcing strict financial penalties and policies on patients for being late, while offering no accountability when the office runs significantly behind. If I’m expected to pay a fee for missing or being late to an appointment, is the office willing to compensate patients when their time is not respected? The message this sends is clear: the office values its time more than its patients’.I’m rating this a 2 only because the receptionist handled the situation professionally and made rescheduling easy—even while I was clearly frustrated.
Dr Shaw was very knowledgeable about my torn calf injury. Dr Shaw was hands on, efficient, effective with a friendly warm and charming manner. His staff Maria Jesus and I missed the name of the third were all good. He explained the injury well and the steps I should take to facilitate healing and recovery. I highly recommend Dr Shaw.
