Description

Lakeridge Athletic Club is a private, members-only athletic club spread across six acres in the hills of El Sobrante, a country-club-style facility that began life in the 1960s as the Canyon Swim Club. Pickleball is one of its newer draws: outdoor courts built as a year-round destination, with lighting for evening play, and both court time and equipment free for members. Players can also sharpen their hands on the club’s racquetball courts when the weather turns. The rest of the property earns the resort billing, with a large heated outdoor pool featuring six 25-yard lap lanes, four lighted tennis courts, bocce courts with leagues, sauna, whirlpool, steam rooms, childcare, group exercise classes, and spa services. Doors open at 5 AM on weekdays, and the club holds a 4.4 rating across 133 Google reviews.

I’ve been a long-time member on and off at this gym and overall, it’s a great facility. Plenty of space, solid equipment, and excellent instructors who run the classes. However, the front desk staff has consistently been a negative part of my experience. On a recent visit, I used a 10-day guest pass provided by my dad and was unexpectedly confronted by multiple staff members who told me he needed to be physically present. This was confusing, as I had used the same pass several times before without any issue. Immediately upon showing it to the staff as I was walking in, this especially rude older white woman with straight medium length hair, and glasses asked me, “who are you with?!”What made the situation worse was the tone and approach. Instead of calmly explaining the policy, I was met with a confrontational and dismissive attitude, which felt unnecessary and unprofessional. The older man who works there as well was also incredibly rude explaining “NO” multiple times. I was ganged up on by three of the staff members all at once and it felt awful to go through. Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated experience. I’ve had multiple interactions with staff in the past that lacked basic courtesy and clear communication. It’s always either the elderly folk who are very rude and condescending who work the front desk, or teenagers who couldn’t care less about their jobs and barely speak to the members or know the rules and policies at this gym, which always seem to be changing around depending on the day anyway. There seems to be a lack of consistency in how policies are enforced, as well as a gap in customer service training. It’s disappointing, especially because the gym itself is great, but experiences like this make it difficult to want to return.I hope management takes a closer look at improving communication and ensuring members and guests are treated with respect always, especially for the price they are paying.

Old outdated equipment and facilities interior decor is 20 years behind the times, exterior is weathered and in need of certain repairs throughout. Staff is rude and inexperienced. The pool itself is clean, clear warm the clubs only saving grace.

That's a great place to enjoy our time. It's spotless and organized, with friendly and helpful staff. Big parking lot including electric charger. Cover with solar panel. So, environmental helpful. You can d many gases here with your friends, or you have a chance to make new friends here. They are lovely people. Buddy Building, swing pool, basketball, racket ball, tennis, and other sports that you might be interested in. So, make sure to come over there and try at least one time. They also have child care all day long. 8:30 am to 8:30 pm. It's imaging.

I can’t believe someone would actually give this place less than a five star review. I’ve been in El Sobrante resident my whole life and this Club has been the most awesome exercise club I’ve ever been to. They’ve made it through recession. They made it through Covid. Busted their butts, keeping everything clean and up-to-date. They have done a lot of updates, but you have to be a member for quite a while to understand what they actually do. With that said it’s plain and simple. If you don’t want an awesome weight room. If you don’t want a swimming pool If you don’t want a hot tub If you don’t want a bocce ball court. If you don’t want a tennis court If you don’t want a sauna If you don’t want a steam room If you don’t want to take a shower and use their soap and all their amenities. If you don’t want a private area that holds events and has barbecues at times. If you don’t want access to trainers. Then it’s clear go somewhere else. I would give this place more than five stars if I could Bruce and staff do everything they can’t keep it up And do a very nice job at it. This is an awesome business. You get what you pay for.. Oh, and one more thing yes they do have a contract and you sign it when you sign up. They automatically take it out of your bank account. If you want to cancel the contract yes there is a fee however, if you want to put it on pause. There’s a very small fee until you want to come back or till contract runs out .. Thank you, Lake Ridge. I think for what you get their pricing is very fair considering the cost of insurances and the cost of running a business nowadays. Once again, thank you Lake Ridge appreciate the Nice and clean place to come visit

I had a disappointing first interaction with Lakeridge Athletic Club due entirely to the sales experience. I was transferred to Kristy, who let me know they don’t offer free trials, which was completely fine. However, when I asked about any alternatives such as a paid day pass or another way to try the gym, she wasn’t able to communicate any options.I made it very clear that I was interested in joining and willing to pay. The response I kept getting was essentially, “Oh no, we don’t do that,” with no follow up, explanation, or attempt to find a solution. I even paused and let the silence sit, expecting a sales oriented response, but none came. The interaction felt less like a sales conversation and more like I was being shielded from the club rather than welcomed into it.That said, I later returned and spoke with a different sales representative and had an excellent experience. Because of that, I believe this was an individual issue rather than a reflection of the club itself. Still, first impressions matter, and this one missed the mark.
