Description

The YMCA Pickleball Center at Downingtown, at 901 Skelp Level Road in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, opened in 2023 as the first YMCA facility in the country devoted entirely to pickleball. Its nine indoor courts sit on 25,000 square feet of unobstructed space with professional lighting and a SportMaster ProCushion surface, acrylic layers with rubber granules that absorb shock without changing ball bounce. Play is membership-based, either as an add-on for YMCA of Greater Brandywine members or as a standalone Pickleball Center membership, with memberships capped to protect court time. The schedule offers more than 80 hours of weekly access, including open play by skill level, lessons, and clinics. Players rate it 4.4 stars across 28 Google reviews.

The place is well run. The people are what make it fun. I’ve been there over two years.

**"Frustrating experience due to unwelcoming staff.** The front desk WHEN managed by a middle-aged woman with short brunette hair (03/20/2025 around 7 pm - everyone else is super nice btw.. just this lady) whose demeanor is unnecessarily harsh and unaccommodating. While most staff are friendly, she alone seems to take pleasure in enforcing rules with zero flexibility—even when it defies logic ( only 24 people out of 48 people available). They hide behind the false front that this is for “community building”. We have been coming here as a family for about a year. The guest policy is particularly baffling. Courts are left empty during peak hours, yet guests are prohibited from playing unless it’s during narrow ‘guest windows.’ Why prioritize arbitrary rules over filling unused courts (and earning revenue)? This wasn’t an issue in the past—guests were welcomed when space allowed, and the atmosphere felt community-oriented. Now, it’s rigidly corporate, prioritizing nonsensical policies over customer satisfaction.Management needs to retrain staff and rethink these counterproductive rules. Until then, I’ll take my business elsewhere—and recommend others do the same. I was able to cancel my membership on the spot. Be aware!

I don’t understand why it says on the website that if space is available, then guests are allowed to play, but I was sent back home with my wife because my son wasn’t allowed to play as a guest when the courts were half empty? What exactly is the policy? Both of us have been members for about a year now.

Excellent new facility with all levels of pickleball play. Court spacing is perfect with fencing between all courts so no interruptions from adjacent courts. Easy to register for play any time using pickleball den app. Reasonable monthly fee for unlimited play.
