EmergeOrtho’s pickleball connection is an original article on understanding pickleball elbow, covering how the lateral epicondylitis overuse injury develops from the sport’s repetitive movements, its symptoms of outer-elbow pain and weakened grip, who it most affects, and treatment options starting with rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relief. Per the sourcing data, the orthopedic practice is independent and physician owned, with more than 190 physicians across over 65 North Carolina locations; the content applies practice wide. This listing covers the Chapel Hill office on Perkins Drive.
My husband and I have been patients at EO for 20 years now, with various orthopedic and other doctors, and we have both had surgeries. I had recommended EO to others; however; I don’t think I’ll ever go back due to their horrible admin department (across the board—not location specific). You can’t make an appointment, let alone talk to someone who listens.I spent far too long on hold. I needed clarification regarding consulting a physician for existing health issues, and whether a single doctor could address both conditions. I argued with two staff members about having X-rays done of my neck. They both insisted that I had not, and then, lo and behold, the “manager” found my X-ray from 2023 that showed cervical spine osteoarthritis. Having an acute shoulder injury combined with neck arthritis is the pits, especially if you can’t sleep, then to argue with a staff member just to get basic questions answered before making an appointment, not getting any answers, and repeatedly being told that I “need a referral”, well, I’m not ready to make the appointment yet (not certain who I need to see). A referral is not the problem—plus my insurance does not require a referral—but you have all the diagnoses and my past visits in my chart right in front of your face. There are college graduates, some with master’s degrees, working for pennies at local businesses who could do these jobs while waiting for something in their own fields, but instead they hire women who can’t read, listen, or apologize. Why so short staffed in admin? My lord, what a horrible way to treat someone in pain. The woman who spoke to me poked the bear and paid the price. She doesn’t deserve a job in this field. I wouldn’t hire her to pick up my mail or walk my dog.
From the bright and kind front desk person checking me in, to the personable and professional medical assistant/nurse taking me to exam room and asking questions to the fantastic and magical painless injection procedure Kaitlyn did? You could not ask for a better experience! Kudos to you EmergeOrtho for making your patients feel like a person vs. a number!
From the check in person, to the nurse, X-ray technician and PA, the whole process was seamless as always. The walk in urgent care service is very professionally run.
Good luck getting a call through. If you’re an existing patient, don’t waste an hour waiting for the front desk to pick up. Call as a new patient, because that line gets answered almost instantly. Also, be aware that you can’t cancel appointments through the patient portal, and you can’t decline through their appointment texts.I have literally been inside the office and watched staff ignore ringing phones while on their personal phones. On another occasion, a staff member was on her phone while I was trying to schedule a follow-up appointment. That matches the experience of trying to call them: getting calls or emails answered is abysmally difficult. They have no problem sending repeated mailed demands for $20 or threatening collections if you don’t respond quickly, even when you have proof of payment. The care may be one thing, but the administrative side is horrific.
Emerge Ortho is a world class facility with amazing staff. If you have a sports injury go here instead of the ER and you will thank me later.Their rehab, physical therapy and specialists are incredible.Visit with confidence.
